Ahh! June in the Pacific Northwest! Azure skies, verdant greens, vivid peonies and roses! The beauty in my own yard and neighborhood never ceases to delight, especially after just returning from a very intense week teaching with the members of the Farallon quartet at the “Next Level” workshop in Hidden Valley, California. With specific classes for each area of technique focusing solely on air-flow, tone, fingers and articulation, in addition to other topics, this intimate five-day workshop is geared specifically for players who literally want to take their recorder playing to the next level. Quite the workout, and always a thrill to be with the Farallon gals (including Miyo) again.

Speaking of Miyo, I’m so excited to announce that our own upcoming Fourth Fall Fipple Flute Forum (September 16 – 18, 2022) will be Focusing on the Feminine! Our Fabulous Faculty will offer class topics ranging from works written by women, works dedicated to or about women, works inspired by women, works based on poetry by a woman, etc… You get the picture! Our continued search for a location that aligns with our mission statement and intent of inclusion has led us to the lovely Bellevue College with easy access off I-90. Online registration opens June 15.

But back to the present, or rather the recent past… What a thrill our in-person Members’ Night was on May 6! It was truly heartening to see you all up on stage performing again. Our treasured secretary, Evy Dudey’s reflections and Bill Stickney’s pictures will bring it all back to life. Plans for our outdoor summer gathering in the yard of Virginia Felton and Jeff Hancock have manifested! Please reserve Sunday, July 31, from 2 -5 pm. Scroll down to read Virginia’s more detailed account, and until then then keep playing music, keep breathing deep belly breaths and especially take the time to marvel the incredible beauty that is all around us. May your travels be safe and easy wherever they may take you.
