A warm and beautiful weekend greeted the fifty+ people who attended the Fifth Fall Fipple Flute Forum at Shoreline Community College. This year’s workshop boasted participants from Vancouver BC, Maryland, New Mexico, California and Oregon. The faculty concert the evening before at Faith Lutheran Church was very well received and set a wonderful tone for the weekend.
Anne Timberlake was the popular new addition to the FFFF Faculty, known to many for her online classes. (As a side comment, Anne started teaching Skype lessons way before the Zoom boom). Her “Eff It!” class (music by composers with names beginning in F) filled to overflowing.
Each of the faculty members (Vicki Boeckman, Miyo Aoki, Laura Kuhlman, along with Anne) taught in the opening tutti session. For the opening tutti led by Miyo on Saturday, we were treated to the world premiere of “Andante for Recorder Orchestra” composed by Miyo’s talented teen student, Antonio Lopez, whom some of you will remember from the FFFF 2022 in Bellevue. Antonio was also in Vicki’s kids’ group that played at last year’s Members’ Night. The final tutti piece on Sunday was Laura’s arrangement of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” which literally left people in awe of the transformative power of music.
Scrumptious baked goods provided by Karen Soma and Ruth Pattison, along with other treats and goodies contributed to the general upbeat mood. And, we couldn’t have asked for better weather! Shoreline Community College proved to be the perfect location for our workshop – we had an entire building to ourselves with ample parking just a few steps away.
Huge heartfelt thanks to everyone behind the scenes who made this year’s FFFF such a success.
