Next Level Recorder Workshop, February 21 to 26

The Next Level Recorder Retreat with the Farallon Recorder Quartet (Miyo Aoki, Letitia Berlin, Frances Blaker, and Vicki Boeckman) has a few spaces left for recorder players at the intemediate to advanced level who are looking for an immersive experience focusing on technique, repertoire, and ensemble skills. Yes, Virginia… a new season of recorder classes at the VSO School of Music will begin in early January 2024! And… everyone is welcome to join in the fun of exploring the many facets of our favourite instrument.

Once again, the Adult Beginner Recorder class will be offered — it’s never too late to take that first step.

Maybe you want to expand your skill set — you’re certain to find topics of interest amongst the Recorder Technique Workshops.

OR… perhaps you’re longing to play in a Recorder Ensemble — what a great way to start the New Year.

Vicki Boeckman will premier Dell Wade’s newly composed recorder concerto with the Haydn and Beyond Orchestra. A fascinating and complex piece dedicated to Vicki. The Haydn and Beyond orchestra is a project-based orchestra that invites string players of all levels to participate. Dell Wade conducts and coaches.

Monday, March 25 at 5:00 pm: Playing Sessions and Concert with Sarah Jeffery (Team Recorder)

Sarah Jeffery (Team Recorder) has had an incredible online presence for years and is a sought-after resource for recorder players around the globe!
She will be in Seattle for one day only, offering two separate playing sessions (one for youth and one for adults) in addition to performing a short solo concert.
This is truly an opportunity not to be missed, so mark your calendars now and don’t let anything else take precedence! 😉

Kids/Youth playing session 5 – 6 pm
Short solo concert from 6:30 – 7:15
Adults playing session 7:30 – 9:00 pm
Suggested fee:

Moss Bay Recorder Society

The MBRS meetings start up their regular playing sessions on Second Saturdays of each month, from 2:00pm – 4:00pm.  The location is different each month, so check back here to learn where the future sessions will be!

Saturday, January 13 will be at the Mountlake Terrace Library (23300 58th Ave W, Mountlake Terrace).

Recorder ensembles led by Laura Townsend

Laura Townsend is offering a variety of weekly ensembles in her home studio with some Covid-era innovations in place: hybrid ensemble meetings with an online option always available and in-person playing for folks who are fully vaccinated/boosted, feeling well, and testing negative on a same-day rapid test.  You are welcome to join any appropriate-level ensemble at any point.  The fee for individual sessions is $20.  In-person spaces are limited, and online participants are always welcome!

A Fun Filled Flauto-dolce Festival Fostering Friendship, Fugues, Fandangos and Flagrant Fits of Folderol!

Save the dates! Saturday and Sunday, September 21 – 22, 2024 for the Fifth Fall Fipple Flute Forum featuring faculty from near and far at the lovely and convenient Shoreline Community College just north of Seattle.

We are excited to announce next year’s faculty will feature Anne Timberlake, author of excellent recorder blog posts as well as our own beloved instructors Miyo Aoki and Vicki Boeckman.

A faculty concert on Friday September 20th in a NE Seattle location is in the planning.
