The Port Townsend Early Music Workshop: July 9 – 15, 2023
We are working diligently on the website for the Port Townsend Early Music workshop and are aiming to have registration go live by March 15. We are so excited to be returning to the lovely campus of the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma and to having our remarkable faculty share their unique energy and expertise for this 40th anniversary year. SAVE the DATES! July 9 – 15, 2023.
Our splendid faculty will include renowned Dutch recorder virtuosa Eva Legene, Brazilian energy ball Cléa Galhano, the scholarly and handsome Mark Davenport, beloved Seattle departees Miyo Aoki and Jonathan Oddie, long time viol favorites David Morris and Mary Springfels, and we welcome the incredibly gifted percussionist, Tacoma local Antonio Gomez.
While total immersion in a week-long residential workshop away from home is the most beneficial for learning and shared camaraderie, we understand that taking a full week off can be challenging for some families. This year we are implementing the opportunity to audit individual classes for those who can’t take the entire week off. Commuter participants can now choose between participating in individual classes in either the morning or afternoon as well as the full week. Full details will be on our website soon, so keep checking back!

April 22 from 10 am – 5 pm — Moss Bay Meet!
Sand Point Community UMC’s Perry Hall, 4710 NE 70th Street
The Moss Bay Meet is back this year! We are so excited to see friends old and new for a recorder-filled day on Saturday, April 22 from 10am to 5pm. We’ll have three playing sessions led by local recorder enthusiasts Larry Stark, Sally Mitchell, and Laura Townsend beginning at 10:00, 1:00, and 3:15 respectively. Music will range from the very early to the very recent. The Meet will be held in Perry Hall, a bright and airy space located on the top of Seattle’s View Ridge. We welcome advanced beginner and up players of recorders and related instruments.
One change to our traditional structure is that we will have a brown bag lunch or participants may go out in the neighborhood for a quick lunch nearby. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged for planning purposes, though payment is not due until the day of the Meet. Covid/health protocols will be observed. Contact Music Director Laura Townsend at beginbaroque@gmail.com to RSVP, for more information, or to request the music ahead of time.
