The final meeting of 2023 will be on Thursday, December 7; we hope you’ve marked your calendar and taken note of the fact that it is on a different day of the week than usual!  Our seasonal selections for the evening will span all of the periods familiar to recorder players from the medieval to the contemporary.

Nova! Nova! is a cheerful, robust medieval carol tune that I’ve arranged for SATB recorders. The Renaissance will be represented by Palestrina’s Hodie Christus natus est.  Baroque works by Bach and Corelli will be included. There will be two settings by Bach of the chorale, Vom Himmel hoch, as well as the last movement of Corelli’s Christmas Concerto, Op. 6, No. 8.  And from our own time, a well-known seasonal piece, “WW”, will conclude the repertory for the evening.  What is “WW”, you ask?  If you haven’t figured that out, you’ll recognize it as soon as you play it!
