Our July 31 outdoor gathering just happened to coincide with one of the hottest days of the year. Eleven valiant recorder players hovered under shade umbrellas to play selected favorites from the 1599 collection of Holborne’s Pavanes, Almaines, and Galliards. Many lovely recorders were sold, but we still have about five bins of sheet music that we would love to go to good homes.
On the last evening of a five day bike ride conducted by the Adventure Cycling Association along the Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes in Idaho, the Seattle Recorder Society was represented at the talent show by a duet from Cathy Lacefield and Ellis Hillinger. Reasonable progress was made explaining to their new friends that recorders can be something more than little plastic instruments used in elementary school.
