Happy belated Autumn Equinox! My, it came upon us quickly. I hope you are easily transitioning into the irrefutable season and enjoying the premonition of fall. September with its golden late afternoon light has always been my personal favorite time of year. (Barring of course the sorrowful smokey skies).
For our October 7 hybrid in-person and Zoom session I have chosen music by the unrivaled Norwegian composer, Edvard Grieg (1843-1907). We will play the stunning Ave Maris Stella from 1898, Vaaren (last Spring), and a couple of jaunty tunes from his Opus 17, Brulaat (Wedding Tune) and Jolstring (Dance from Jolster). All sizes of instruments from soprano on down to contra are welcome. We are still limiting the number of in-person players to 20, and it helps me greatly knowing how many are planning on attending. Zoom Link and PDFs for October 7 playing session will be sent on Monday, October 3. I’m looking forward to seeing you all soon!
In person attendees
We can always use help schlepping chairs down from the choir loft. Doors will open at 6:15. Please plan to arrive in the sanctuary of Maple Leaf Lutheran Church with enough time to unpack and get settled so we can start promptly at 7:00 pm. Send me an email no later than Wednesday prior to the Friday meeting with your intent to come and desired part (this is just to make sure we have all parts covered). If you have previously attended in person and already sent me proof of vaccination, there is no need to do so again. If this is your first time attending in person, please read and comply with our safety protocols.
Back Room Gang (from Laura Townsend)
The Back Room Gang will open its doors for the first time in over two years to new or rusty recorder players or anyone who would like to explore simpler music in a welcoming and supportive environment. We will meet in-person only, in the lovely annex off the sanctuary where the large SRS group will meet, following all of SRS’s Covid protocols (see next page). Local ensemble leader Laura Townsend’s joy and specialty is helping novice players enjoy making music together. She is eager to welcome new and returning members of the Back Room Gang with an array of music designed to delight and inspire!
Contact Laura at email@example.com to register for the Back Room Gang ,ask questions, or request the music ahead of time. Please include what size or sizes of recorder you would like to play.
